All About Apples

It is finally the fall season! Time for pumpkins, falling leaves, and spooky decorations. I don’t know about you, but there is nothing more fall than going to an apple orchard and picking delicious ripe local apples. There are many things you can do with apples like make a pie, applesauce, or jelly, or just eat them whole! Below are pictures from the apple trees on Nourish Farm’s property.

Apples are a great way to get fiber and nutrients in your diet. Let’s break down the apple. First, we have the outer peel of the apple. This contains tons of fiber! Fiber can help your digestive system and maintain bowel health. Next, we have the inside of the apple. This is called the flesh. The flesh contains fructose, sucrose, and glucose which are simple sugars. These sugars are great for energy and can give your body a boost! The flesh also contains Vitamin C and Potassium. Vitamin C not only can help with immunity against disease but also helps to repair parts of your body such as muscle and cartilage. Potassium helps to maintain fluid levels inside your cells and inside the body.

Not only are apples great for your body but they also taste amazing! However, the different varieties of apples taste different. With so many options, here is a table with a list of some varieties found locally. Using this list, visit your local apple orchards and taste all the varieties of apples! If you have any questions about what apple to buy, your local apple farmer can also direct you on what apple to buy.
