Educating to Improve Food Literacy
We at Nourish define food literacy as the following:
Discerning between food textures (crunchy, soft, etc.)
Understanding basic food descriptors (sweet, spicy, umami, etc.)
Distinguishing between whole-foods versus processed-foods
Having basic cooking skills
Understanding of how food is grown
We believe that food literacy is so important because the more that individuals know about their food, the more likely they are to make more wholesome food choices. Nourish teaches food literacy through various outreach and programming outlets and additionally by providing free, accessible educational resources.
