Greetings From Dietetic Intern, Grace Garni

Hello everyone,

My name is Grace and I am a dietetic intern at Nourish. Currently, I am completing the final few months of my dietetic internship with The Priority Nutrition Care Distance Dietetic Internship program. Upon completion, in May 2019, I am extremely motivated to begin my career as a dietitian. I can confidently state that my education and work experience has prepared me to become an excellent dietitian.

Although our food journeys begin long before we can make sense of our eating habits, there was a pivotal moment for me in 8th grade. At that time I had developed an eating disorder, and had to meet with a dietitian weekly who worked with me on overcoming my fear of food. From that moment, I knew I wanted to use my own experience to help others in similar situations. Since then, I have grown to see the importance of food including how food is used to fuel the body and prevent disease. Food really is incredible.

I attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and received my Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology with an emphasis in nutrition and dietetics. While attending UWGB I learned about Nourish through the nutrition program. Little did I know that I lived so close to them, as I live about fifteen minutes from the facility. I had spoken on multiple occasions to different people about Nourish, including registered dietitians and previous nutrition students, who had nothing but good things to say about the organization, their mission, and the employees.

While completing my eight week internship rotation at Nourish I have learned more about various topics such as school nutrition programs, food literacy, agriculture, sustainability, and local farming. I was also given the opportunity to present food demonstrations at Sheboygan South High School and the community at Mead Library's Wintergreen event. I also had the opportunity to perform observational studies in the lunchrooms at various elementary schools. All of these experiences have contributed to making me a well-rounded individual.

I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to be an intern at Nourish. I will carry on all that I have learned and apply it to my own life and practice. With great enthusiam I can say that I will soon be completing my internship and FINALLY begin my career as a registered dietitian.

Thank you for letting me be apart of the Nourish team!
